Children as young as 13 were able to create accounts on the OnlyFans subscription site, it has been revealed.
A BBC investigation found that under-18s could create accounts on the adult website using false documents or IDs belonging to older parents.
In one case, a 14-year-old girl was able to open an account using her grandmother’s passport and bank details, police said.
OnlyFans is a content subscription service, set up by an Essex-based family, that allows content creators to earn money from those who want to pay to see their content.
The service is popular with sex workers, with all of the highest paid employees being women.
Other types of content on the site include fitness videos and content from celebrities and other famous content creators.
A BBC investigation found that children as young as 13 can use OnlyFans to share explicit images on a content subscription website that has millions of adult subscribers.
Over the past year, the company has seen an increase in membership largely due to the pandemic and now has more than 120 million users worldwide.
The service has enabled many people who found themselves unemployed during the pandemic to earn living income while others have become millionaires on the platform.
However, the investigation carried out by the BBC found that teens could create accounts on the adults-only website using different methods.
The company discovered that a 17-year-old girl from the south-east of England was able to sell videos of herself performing sex acts and using sex toys on the platform.
The teenager used a fake ID to set up her account and within a week she received £ 5,000 in payments from the site, prompting the bank to freeze her account.
There have also been reports of underage girls participating in videos on adult accounts in the United States, which goes against company terms and conditions.
School protection officials also revealed that children as young as 12 are using the site to contact other adult content creators and ask to meet.
Meanwhile, the child welfare charity Childline told the BBC that a girl told them she had been using the site since she was 13.
OnlyFans said they use cutting edge technology and human supervision to prevent children under the age of 18 from sharing content and that they take responsibility very seriously.
The anonymized notes of the conversation with the child which were shared with the BBC by Childline read: ‘I don’t want to talk about the types of photos I post out there and I know it’s not appropriate for them. kids my age to do this, but it’s an easy way to make money.
“ Some girls have thousands of followers on Instagram and they have to comb it – I want to be like them. ”
Police chief Simon Bailey, the UK’s national head of child welfare policing, says it is “increasingly clear” that OnlyFans is being used by children.
Mr Bailey said he was concerned about the risks to which children are exposed by appearing on the site.
In the terms and conditions of the company, there is a long list of restrictions on the type of content allowed on the site.
This includes insisting that anyone featured in the content must be over the age of 18. It also prohibits any content that shows or promotes offenses such as sexual assault or rape.
OnlyFans declares that it is committed to ensuring the safety of users and that its conditions of use are respected.
OnlyFans said in a statement: “ OnlyFans is a subscription-based social media platform for all content creators with over 120 million users.
As this is paid social media, users must be over the age of 18 to access the site.
