The US Army Corps of Engineers seeks to reuse your living Christmas tree

BENTON, Ill. (KFVS) – The US Army Corps of Engineers wants to reuse your living Christmas tree.

They have several drop-off points in Marion, Mt. Vernon and several locations in Rend Lake.

Locations in Mount Vernon include: Veterans Park Softball Fields and Optimist Park.

In Marion, locations include: Ray Fosse Park in the “Goofy Golf” parking lot and Pyramid Park in the northernmost picnic shelter.

These two locations in Marion will accept trees until January 8, 2022.

Places to drop your tree at Rend Lake include: Sugar Creek parking lot, Dam West boat launch, or Jackie Branch boat launch.

These locations in Rend Lake will accept trees until January 15, 2022.

Artificial and flocked trees cannot be donated and all decorations must be removed.

Christmas trees will be used to aid recreational services on the lake such as fishing.

“We have several places around the lake where we put the Christmas trees, in large areas, which creates a kind of artificial reef. And these reefs are really good because the sets have the needle to off, you’ve got all the different branches in there. The small fish stay in the branches, protect them, they can grow up and also have a place to feed and the bigger fish sit outside waiting to feed on the small fish, “said Tim Bischoff, ranger. -parc in the United States. Army Corps Of Engineers Lac Rend.

All donated trees will then be grouped, weighed and placed in the lake. This process will take place in March.
