US falsely backs military water pumping, advocates say


Law360 (May 5, 2021, 4:37 p.m. EDT) – Environmental groups told an Arizona federal judge on Tuesday that the U.S. government had failed to properly assess the impact of a groundwater pumping plan on a nearby river and had to undertake a new study.

The Sierra Club and other Green groups have said that the US Army‘s Fort Huachuca, located near Tucson, Ariz., Pumps more groundwater from the upper San Pedro River basin than any other user and caused a drop in the local water table. The groups are suing to force a new scientific study that they say will show the overpumping should stop.
